Slice of Life – March 12th

Today’s writing can take some inspiration from our current studies in science.  Think of a food chain or food web.  Perhaps a poem comes to mind regarding the complexity of either of those.   But then you might also choose to zoom in and become a specific producer or consumer.  Write from your point of view.  Have the specific organism in mind when you write.

Once you have finished your post, submit it for review.  Then post a link to your blog in the comments below.  Once that is done, go to the Two Writing Teachers blog and read (and comment on)other student blogs.

Sounds that take you back…

This is an excerpt from Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli:

“He loved the silence and solitude.
But he also loved the noise, which came later in the day.
He loved the sound of pancake batter hissing on the griddle.
He loved the noise of the church they went to on Sunday mornings, a church called Bethany  — When the minister would thump on the pulpit and the people would call out “Amen” and the choir would swing this way and swing that way and would sing “Hallelujah!” right back to the choir, and everyone just got happier and happier, and it all made him want to do more than run.”

What are the sounds that trigger wonderful family times in your life?

Slice of Life – March 7th

We all own a lot of things.  Some of those things are things we buy or that people buy for us.  But some of those things are things that are passed down to us from a loved family member.  Name one thing that you own that has special meaning for you.  Describe the object, describe how it came to be yours, and describe why it is so special to you.  If you can include a picture, do that.

Once you have submitted your post for review and later posted a link to your blog in the comment section below, then go to the Two Writing Teachers and find three or more student blogs to comment on.

Slice of Life – March 3rd

This morning my dogs left sweet little footprints in the little bit of snow that had accumulated.  I looked up to feel the falling flakes on my face and remembered making snow angels.  As a child I stayed out in the snow as long as I was allowed.

When I came in I must’ve weighed ten pounds more because all of my outer clothes were heavy with wet.  But somehow I didn’t notice until I started taking off those wet heavy things.  While outside I was happy and free and living in the snow.

How about you?  What are your memories of being a child in the snow?

After you comment with your blog list, go to The Two Writer’s Blog and read some other student writing.  Don’t forget to comment on at least three each day!
